Super Mario QAL Progress

I've finished blocks 3 and 4 of the Super Mario QAL and am now actually one block ahead since I did the Fire flower block during the period I couldn't do the Goomba block.
I wasn't sure I was really going to like the cloud block, somehow it didn't seem exciting enough to me. I'm glad I went ahead and made it, I think it is pretty cute after all.

The Goomba block is a mess. I'm just glad it is over and done with!

In other good news, I started working on my backing for the Super Mario Quilt. I'm using a cross stitch pattern of Mario from Super Mario Kart from this website. Same concept as the front, only the squares are 2.5in. instead of 1.5in.

How Far Will I Go?

The How Far Will You Go? QAL is proving to be a challenge.

I completed the first block successfully but the 2nd and the 3rd blocks have caused me a few problems.
I don't have a picture of the 2nd block, which is a Weather vane block, but suffice it to say I have to re-do that block in hopes of better accuracy.
Today I have the 3rd block, which is a Pieced Star, which wasn't so bad, except for when I initially pieced my rectangles, I put the white corners on the wrong ends and cut them off, resulting in a not-star design! And not just once, but 3 times, as there are 3 of these blocks in the quilt.
So, that part of the block had to be re-done, and this time I paid close attention to what went where and they turned out much better.
Here they are, using Kate Spain Terrain and some Good Fortune (huh!).

Great Granny Update

I finally finished making all 12 blocks for my Great Granny QAL quilt. I didn't actually end up with 4 blocks each from Marmalade, Ruby and Vintage Modern, but I came pretty close.

Next I have to decide on my layout. I think I'm going to have little 2.5" print blocks at the corners of my sashing like I've seen on some of the other layouts on Flickr.

For now, here are the rest of my blocks. There are 12 total, the rest I have already shown.

Fire Flower Block

I was supposed to have been working on the Goomba block for the Super Mario QAL but I did not have a satisfactory assortment of browns. Not wanting to get behind I decided to do a different block instead and have finished my Fire Flower block.
I used Kona Tomato for the red and either Butter or Canary for the yellow.

Sunday Stash Seemingly Random Picks

This week's additions may seem a bit random, but most of them have a specific designation in my mind.
Like this little bundle. I have an idea in mind for 2 quilt made with some paper pieced blocks and these will become part of that project when I finally tackle it.
Prints are Sailing Blue and Fly High Blue from Studio E and the other is ABCs of Fleas by Alexander Henry.

Next is this bundle of Kona solids in Jade, Ice Frappe, Ivory, Ash and Black. It's going to be the top for my Groovy quilt in the Totally Groovy QAL

Then there's this Ed Emberly Panel for my future prints with animals (not animal prints!) quilt project.

Now things get a bit random. From The Intrepid Thread I chose some of the prints from the new Good Life line by Riley Blake. Some dots and flowers that will go with so many other fabrics.

Michael Miller's Thar She Blows and some Backyard Baby Trees that I have long admired. The whales are for a planned sailboat themed quilt, the trees are undecided.

And, Joann's is having a .99 fat quarter sale this weekend so I found a few there. A few more dots and 2 quilt shop quality prints.

While at Joann's I noticed they had about 6 or 7 of the new Denyse Schmidt Richmond prints. I have to say this line isn't a must have for me, it's quite dark. I did pick up half a yard of one print, plus 2 Alexander Henry Market prints.

And of course I can't leave Joann's without raiding the remnant bin, especially as all remnants were 70% off this weekend! I found a few Kona solids and a couple of other solids.

QAL Blocks Galore!

I got block busy over the weekend. As I've mentioned, I'm now in several quilt a longs. I haven't counted, but it's at least 5. I'm really enjoying these QALs, but I don't have any completely finished work to show, which kind of makes me feel like I'm not doing enough. Oh well, perhaps that will change soon.

For the Super Mario QAL, I now have Luigi done. This one did not go quite as smoothly as Mario did, hence the little puckers in some spots. I'm not fixing it, I'll just have to be more careful in future.

I'm a little ahead of schedule with this one, but since I am making two quilts for this QAL, I figured it's better to be ahead rather than behind. The first block is made with Cherry Christmas by Aneela Hooey and the second block is made with Flurry by Kate Spain.

And finally, two more blocks for the I've decided to make this one 12 blocks instead of 9. Four each from Vintage Modern, Ruby and Marmalade. These 2 are made with Marmalade.

Sunday Stash Final for July

My input continues to exceed my output. But I really do have hopes of one day using it all!

My additions over the past two weeks include a few layer cakes, a little bundle and some cool mystery fat quarters.

First up I took advantage of a sale at Green Fairy Quilts, where I got my layer cakes and fat eighth bundle.
First is Spa Day by Deb Strain. Something about all those cool blues called to me. I would love to do one of those mosaic type of quilts with this.

Then there's this fat eighth bundle of Good Morning by Me & My Sister Designs. The bright colors and the blender prints made me want to snap this one up.

And finally, I couldn't resist the lure of $1.25 fat quarters from Jaqs Fabric. She sells warm and cool fq bundles of 12 mystery prints for only $15. I thought it would be fun to see what showed up. I actually like all of the prints I received, and only 3 are dupes for me.
