WIP Wednesday

Over the weekend I was able to get my Great Granny QAL top finished. 12 12.5in blocks in Vintage Modern, Ruby and Marmalade with Kona Snow as the background and sashing fabric. I think the backing should be something along the plain and simple lines, but since I used Snow on the front I don't think white would be an option.

I also made block 3 of the Fat Quarter Shop's 2012 Vintage Modern Mystery BOM. It is a Weathervane block which turned out much better than the one I needed to make for the How Far Will You Go? QAL.

And the St. Louis Star for the How Far Will You Go QAL. This was a paper pieced block, and while the execution of it was fine, I didn't do my colors right, so now they alternate instead of the points being all one print.

Saturday Block Bonanza

Well, it is Saturday, and I made some blocks, the bonanza is just to give the title a little pizazz.

I somehow seem to have signed up for a bunch of QALs of the past couple of weeks (see, my right side bar is getting so full!), and today I have a couple of blocks to share.
I like the idea of the easy pace of QALs and BOMs. It's easy to get bored sometimes, doing the same thing over and over and with these, you do one or two, then you're done for a few weeks, so it breaks up the monotony, and provides a chance to play with many of my fabrics all at one time.
This block is my first block for the The Great Granny Along. This is a QAL that is using a super-sized granny square block that finishes at 12.5 inches.

I used Bonnie & Camille's new line, Marmalade and Kona Snow for my first block. I think I'm going to make the whole quilt a B&C quilt using Ruby, Vintage Modern and now Marmalade.

On tomorrow's Sunday Stash I'll be showing the rest of the Marmalade fabrics I received.
My next block is the 2nd installment from the Fat Quarter Clubs 2012 Mystery BOM. This one is called Mint Julep and was designed by Lisa Bongean. It was made with Vintage Modern and came together very quickly.

My final block is for the BOM at In Color Order. I'm not totally happy with the fabrics I picked for this block. It's possible I may do a different composition at some point, but for now, here's July's block.

BOM Progress

I didn't do much sewing this weekend. I did promise myself that I had to at least make the 2 blocks for the Block of the Month programs I am in.

First up is the June block for the half square triangle BOM at In Color Order. Now that June's block is done, we are officially half way through this quilt. In keeping with my Denyse Schmidt fabric theme, I chose prints from Picnics and Fairgrounds, Sugar Creek and Aunt Edna.

And here's a picture of all of my blocks together. I had to use the couch as I don't have a section of wall that has sufficient light this time of evening.

My next block is for the Fat Quarter Shop 2012 Designer Mystery BOM. This BOM uses Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille for Moda. The first block is called Laundry Days and was designed by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs.

As you can see from the picture, I used the leftover triangle scraps to sew up some little squares. I may try to incorporate these into the finished quilt when I'm done. I expect there will be more scraps like these as we progress.
